| Canmore is named in honor of Malcolm of Canmore, King of Scotland from 1057 to 1093. The direct translation of the word is “big head”. The community of Canmore generally spend a lot of time outdoors. People are often seen participating in any number of outdoor activities. Summer activities range from walking, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and camping to world class golfing. Winter activities include cross-country and downhill skiing, skating and snowshoeing. |

| Canmore is situated in the north west corner of Kananaskis country and is surrounded by over 2.5 million acres of protected wilderness. Canmore is an easy 1 1/2 hour drive west of the Calgary International Airport, a 20 minute drive east of Banff and only a 5 minute drive from the gates of Banff National Park. |
